In 2016, for a new commercial real estate agency entering the Melbourne market, we would offer free marketing to new clients, just to give us a chance to sell or lease their commercial or retail property. Our ‘free marketing package’ was only supposed to be an introductory offer from a new, independent agency but what we discovered was that we became more accountable for our results. To be frank, we needed to make our money back and the only way to do this was by producing deals that our clients were happy with and within a reasonable timeframe.
